Project Goals

Korean Air needed an in flight entertainment system that went beyond the utilitarian interfaces typical of the industry. The goal was to create something that felt genuinely engaging and modern, accessible to passengers across all technological backgrounds, while reflecting the quality and refinement of the Korean Air brand.

The key challenge was designing a navigation model that made a broad content library feel effortless to explore, without relying on familiar smartphone or touchscreen conventions that had not yet become universal in IFE hardware.

Intuitive Navigation
Design a content browsing experience that felt natural and effortless for passengers of all technological backgrounds.
Dual Sided Interaction
Introduce a page flip interface model separating navigation from content, creating a tactile and familiar interaction metaphor.
Brand Elevation
Reflect Korean Air's premium positioning through a refined visual system that stood apart from generic airline IFE aesthetics.
Content Discovery
Make a broad library of movies, TV, audio, and trip information feel explorable and approachable within a single coherent system.

Beyond Entertainment

I designed a dual sided interface to elevate user interaction. The front side functioned as the primary navigation panel, offering clear and seamless access to content categories. Users could then flip the interface, similar to turning pages, to access the content itself. This approach introduced a natural, tactile experience that felt both familiar and fresh.

The design featured a dual sided approach, with a front facing navigation panel and a back side content interface for a seamless browsing experience. Intuitive navigation was achieved through page flip interactions that mimicked real world behavior, making content exploration effortless and natural. The user centered design struck a balance between simplicity and functionality, ensuring passengers of all technological backgrounds could engage with ease and confidence.

Developed the Beyond visual language, establishing the color palette, iconography, and motion principles that carried across all content modes and screen states.

Impact that moved the needle

The Beyond IFE system raised the bar for Korean Air's in cabin experience, delivering a more engaging and accessible entertainment interface that reflected the airline's premium brand positioning. The dual sided interaction model was well received as an intuitive departure from standard airline IFE navigation, making content discovery more natural for a wide range of passengers.
